Wednesbury teenager Amy Nichols and Walsall boy Kris Marco were two of the six finalists who performed live at the Music Quest 02 talent competition at Wolverhampton's Wulfrun Hall.The two youths came to MPM RECORDS to record their songs which got them into the finals.

Amy Nichols, the youngest of the six finalists at 15, impressed the star judging panel, which included Midland Music legend Roy Wood and raggae star Bitty Mclean, with the quality of her material and distinctive vocal style.

  

She was presented with £500 cash, a trophy and free studio recording time by Beacon Radio presenters Mark Jeeves and Jo Desmond.

One of the runners-up was 20-year-old solo artist Kris Marco from Walsall who looked liked he wanted to be the next Craig David. The final marked the culmination of a competition which drew more than 100 entries from budding music stars aged 12 - 20.

The event's proceeds go to the Acorns Childrens Hospice.
